Petes ride past Team NOHA in 4-1 victory

The OMHA champion Peterborough Petes clinched their first win of the 2023 OHL Cup Showcase with a 4-1 victory over the Northern Ontario Hockey Association.

Team NOHA opened up the scoring early in the first with a goal from Bryden Shank (1), but it would be the Petes that came out on top with four unanswered goals from Josh Avery (1), Cohen Bidgood (1), Will McFadden (1) and Kayden Buller (1).

Masen Johnston was near perfect between the pipes, stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced.

Will McFadden (1) spoke on his teams’ performance and scoring in the opening game, “We had a couple of nerves out there at the start, but we really dialled in after the first period and it showed.”

“Putting one in the net definitely gets the monkey off my back. It felt good to score in the first game, but I couldn’t have done it without all the forecheck that led up to it.”

McFadden (1) earned Player of the Game for Peterborough, while Alex Hall also earned the honours, making 32 saves for NOHA.

Team NOHA is back in action at 9:15pm against the Waterloo Wolves while Peterborough looks to secure their second win of the tournament Thursday at 5:45pm against the wild card entry Don Mills Flyers.

BARDOWN PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Peterborough – Will McFadden (F) – 1G
NOHA – Alex Hall (G) – 32 SV
