OHL Cup Day 3 Recap

Round-Robin action continued Thursday with eight games at the 2016 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament, hosted by the Greater Toronto hockey League.

The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs are the only team with a 3-0 record following Day 3 action and have secured a berth in Saturday’s Quarter-Finals. 16 of the other 19 teams can still qualify for playoff action pending Friday’s results as the Round-Robin wraps up with 12 games on tomorrow’s schedule.

Hunter Holmes of the Niagara North Stars continues to lead the tournament scoring race with five goals and three assists for eight points in three games.

Here’s a look at how things unfolded at the Scotiabank Pond.


Game 1 – Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs 6, Thunder Bay Kings 0: Anthony Grigg registered five assists as the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs continued their run of success with a 6-0 win to begin Day 3 of the 2016 OHL Cup. Game Summary

Game 2 – Barrie Jr. Colts 4, Don Mills Flyers 0: Matt Nastasiuk carried the Barrie Jr. Colts to a 4-0 win over the Don Mills Flyers, scoring three times to help them grab a much needed two points. Game Summary

Game 3 – Waterloo Wolves 5, Niagara North Stars 3The Waterloo Wolves kept their OHL Cup playoff hopes alive as Alex Gritz scored twice in a 5-3 win over the Niagara North Stars. Game Summary

Game 4 – Windsor Jr. Spitfires 1, Greater Kingston Jr. Frontenacs 1: The Windsor Jr. Spitfires and Greater Kingston Jr. Frontenacs played to a stalemate on Thursday afternoon as overtime solved nothing in a 1-1 outcome.  Game Summary

Game 5 – York Simcoe Express 2 Mississauga Senators 2: The York Simcoe Express recovered from a slow start, salvaging a point with a tie in their second straight game.  Game Summary

Game 6 – Team NOHA 4, Southern Tier Admirals 0: Lucas Theriault connected for a hat-trick to lead Team NOHA to a 4-0 win over the Southern Tier Admirals.  Game Summary

Game 7 – Quinte Red Devils 4, TPH Hockey 4: TPH Hockey put forth a solid effort, nearly getting by the Quinte Red Devils in a 4-4 tie.  Game Summary

Game 8 – Elite Hockey Group 6, London Jr. Knights 2: Elite Hockey Group struck for six goals, defeating the London Jr. Knights to earn their first win at the 2016 OHL Cup.  Game Summary
