Martin’s late goal pushes Wolves past Rebels

With two goals late in the third, the Waterloo Wolves prevailed over the Mississauga Rebels 3-1 to start their 2023 OHL Cup with a win.

In a low-scoring, physical game, top prospect and Team Ontario forward Brady Martin (1G) scored the game winning goal with a missile of a slapshot on the power play. Brendan Gerber (1G) and Sam Ratcliffe (1G) both had shorthanded goals for the Wolves in the win, while Michael Dec (1G) had the lone goal for the Rebels.

“It was a tough battle, hard fought game, but it was big for our team to get a couple late and ultimately come out with the win,” said Martin, as the Wolves captain discussed the battle in his team.

Both goalies played tremendous with Rebels goaltender Daniel Giusti (21 SV) and Waterloo goalie Noah Ricci (16 SV) earning BARDOWN Player of the Game honours for their team.

Waterloo’s next game will be at 9:15pm later tonight against Team NOHA. While the Rebels will face-off against the Don Mills Flyers in their second game of the showcase.
