Martin buries hat trick as Wolves eliminate Marlboros

Top 2023 OHL Priority Selection prospect Brady Martin had a hat trick as he powered his Waterloo Wolves into the 2023 OHL Cup Semifinals with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Toronto Marlboros.
With two incredible goals displaying his wicked shot, Martin (6, 7, 8) pushed Waterloo out to a 2-0 lead in the second period. Jason Zhou (2) would bring the Marlboros within one heading into the flood with a feed on the power play from Lev Katzin.
William Moore (4) would pick the corner as he tied the game at two early in the third. The game would remain tied at two until Martin would finish off the hat trick with a highlight reel goal to give the Wolves the 3-2 lead.
In an intense game, the Wolves captain described his team’s performance saying, “We really just stuck to our systems, kept it simple, and beat the Marlies.”
“Couldn’t have done it without my teammates, all three goals my teammates just setting me up, but I just really wanted that third one to get our team the lead, and now we’re excited to move onto tonight,” added Martin, as he described his big performance.
Brendan Gerber (2A) and Hunter Solomon (2A) both had multipoint performances for Waterloo, while Wolves goaltender Reed Straus (25 SV) stood tall in the crease, making some big saves to hold down the lead for his team.
The Wolves will now play the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 6:00pm in semifinal action. While Aidan Lane (8-5–13) and William Moore (4-6–10) had 13 points and 10 points respectively to lead the Marlboros in tournament scoring.
