Kings outlast Peterborough to advance to OHL Cup Championship Final

The wild card entry Vaughan Kings have booked their ticket to the OHL Cup Championship Final, coming back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the OMHA champion Peterborough Petes on Saturday night.
An action-packed first period, Peterborough’s top point-producer Will McFadden (4) scored an early marker to put the Petes up 1-0, but the Kings would quickly bounce back with goals from Carter Kostuch (6), Mason Kim (1) and Vasily Serov (2).
Looking to keep Peterborough in the game, Cohen Bidgood (3) fired one in for Petes, netting his third goal of the tournament.
With less than a minute left on the clock, the Petes pulled goaltender Masen Johnston to give Peterborough the advantage, but the Kings would prevail off Ewan McChesney’s (4) empty-netter.
Earning BARDOWN Player of the Game honours for the Kings, Serov spoke on the win saying, “We went out there and played a good game as a team. Everyone was playing their hardest and knew that we needed to do our best to make it to the Finals.”
“Making it to the Finals means everything to me and my team.”
McFadden earned Player of the Game honours for the Petes, who outshot Vaughan 33-14, including a total of 13-4 in the third period. Kings netminder Aleksei Medvedev was up to the task, making 31 saves in the win.
After suffering a 5-1 loss in the Round Robin, the Kings will again face off against the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in the OHL Cup Championship Final on Monday night at 7:00 pm. The game can be seen streaming live for free on CHL TV, and will be aired across the province on OHL Action Pak channel 466.
