Bulldogs stay undefeated with 3-2 triumph

The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs wrapped up Round Robin play with a perfect 4-0 record, getting the better of the Niagara North Stars in a chippy affair between two SCTA opponents.

Jack Wismer, Marino Moro and Mitchell Gordon had goals while Matthew Lukic continued his solid play in the crease, denying Niagara North’s Jaleel Adams on a third period penalty shot to secure a 3-2 win.

The Bulldogs certainly provided the Stars with a chance to overtake them, taking frequent trips to the penalty box while the PK came through, holding Niagara North to 1-for-10 on the man advantage.

“I think we went a little overboard a few times and took some unnecessary penalties,” said Hamilton winger Jack Wismer. “There were times when we got undisciplined and that can’t happen moving forward. We’ve battled those guys hard throughout the season and it was definitely nice to beat them here and stay perfect.”

Hamilton took the season series between the two clubs with a record of 2-1-1.

Hunter Holmes scored his sixth goal of the showcase to lead the OHL Cup in scoring through Friday’s action with six goals, three assists and nine points in four contests. Jacob Campbell also scored for Niagara North in the loss that sees them finish with a 1-3-0 record.

The Jr. Bulldogs advance to the Quarter-Finals on Saturday, marking the first time in OHL Cup history that they’ve made it out of the Round Robin.
